How to: Host a party like a bombshell

Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Lauren and Audrey Hepburn are among the few women who have received the title of being a 'bombshell.' It's a mixture of sas teamed with class which gives these women that je ne sais quoi. You can just imagine how amazing their parties would be and all the heads turning in the room as they enter.  Below is my guide of how to host like a bombshell including some favourites from the past:

What would a bombshell wear?
The bombshell loved to live a life she knew she couldn't really afford. So she would probably splash out on a chic red dress from that cute little boutique she's been meaning to try. She may even treat herself to lunch at a french bistro whilst deciding which clutch will go with her new dress. Then she would probably just buy a brand new one in champagne from New Look. She would then probably have to buy some heels, even if she doesn't wear them in the house. The bombshell would wear rhinestones and insist they're diamonds. It's just the kind of girl she is!

What drinks would she serve?
Champagne with an elegant strawberry or hibiscus. She will most likely run out and get her friends to fetch more. She may resort to creating her own cocktail if needs be.

What food would she serve?
The bombshell isn't one for cooking so she may make something simple like prawn cocktail or fondue. She will also have a bowl of crisps and dip as well as crudite.

How would she greet her guests?
The bombshell is never affraid of getting into other peoples personal space so she would probably greet them with a hug.

How would she say goodbye?
The bombshell would probably say goodbye with a hug saying 'We should meet up soon! I'll call you!' She will probably never call.

Halloween Fun!

My favourite holiday is halloween and it isn't far away now! I love that children, and adults, can dress up and have an excuse to over load on sweets and treats. So I am very pleased no announce my friends Rebecca Jones photography and charms and chains are hosting a fun filled halloween event. This is for the opening of charms and chains as they have left the market and now have their own store! LWV will be having a mini boutique and we are just so very happy about this! There will be face painting, a cake stall, a photobooth and a chance to make your own bracelet! To me this sounds like the perfect way to spend the day. There will also be trick or treat games where you will get the chance to win 50% off! Make sure you don't miss out and be sure to spread the word!

How to: Create Cute Storage

I have become obsessed with decoupaging using fabric lately. It can turn any dull cardboard box into a cute little storage place. I had a broken old jewellery box which I chucked and replaced with my creation. I also used a spare jar to place earings in and some vintage lace to tie together loose bracelets and rings.

You will need:
  • A cardboard box or tray
  • Pieces of fabric or paper
  • A mixture of PVA glue and warm water
  • A jar
  • Ribbon or lace
  •  Dip strips of fabric or paper in the glue and water mixture until they are wet
  • Cover the box with these strips
  • Leave to dry
  • Place a jar in the tray and fill with what you like
  • Tie together spare bracelets and rings with ribbon or lace, place in box
There you have it! Easy and adorable shabby chic storage!

Breakfast At Tiffanys...Or anywhere!

Everyone knows the iconic scene where Audrey Hepburn stops outside Tiffanys eating a delicious pastry and sipping a take out coffee. Take out breakfast has never looked so fabulous! However, in this economy with our busy schedules it's hard to find time to eat out. So I've created my own take out breakfast for ladys and gents on the run which is almost as good as having breakfast at Tiffanys.

Soya Chai Latte:
  • 1 cup Soya milk (you can also use semi skimmed or almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cardamon pod
  • half tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp of sugar
  • 1 drop vanilla essence
  • 1 tea bag
  • Pour milk and water into a saucepan and heat gently for 1 minute
  • Add the teabag, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar and cardamon pod
  • Boil for 3 minutes using a ladle to add air and froth the latte
  • Use a strainer to pour your latte into a travel mug and you're good to go!
Nigella's Banana Chocolate Muffins:
Ingredients: (makes 12)
  • 3 over ripe bananas
  • 125ml vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 100g brown sugar
  • 225 grams plain flour
  • 45ml cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees/gas mark 6
  • Mash bananas by hand with a potatoe masher. Whilst mashing add the oil, eggs and sugar
  • Add the flour, bicarb and cocoa to the mixture and beat gently.
  • Spoon the mixture into muffin cases in a muffin tray.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes muffins should be dark and peeking out of their cases.
I hope you find this on-the-go breakfast useful! Not only is it elegant enough for even Audrey but delicious!

I was so very excited to receive my very first graze box on Saturday! I have heard so much about these cute brown card packages that contain healthy and tasty snacks. I know the snacks are probably meant to last more than a day but Simon and I ate them all. They were delish and guilt free!
My graze box came in a cute patriotic flag box which I loved! Each snack comes individually wrapped compartment making them easy to take with you. I took my natural treat, a selection of nuts, dried fruit and chocolate perfectly balanced, with me to a shoot last night. The box also comes with a leaflet containing nutritional information and a sweet booklet welcoming you to graze.
I really am too excited to get my next one! I'm getting them delivered every fortnight!

Pretty in Pin-Up

Becoming a stunning pin-up is every retro loving girls fantasy, including mine. I was lucky enough to be contacted by the lovely photographer Rebecca Jones.  Once I arrived in her studio I knew it was the right place for me. The place had such a homely feel with pastel green walls, shabby chic furniture and decor. I felt welcome and really loved how different it was to the standard office. Rebecca had such a friendly professional vibe which put me at ease. Once Rebecca told me her idea to offer other vintage and retro lovers the chance to be transformed into a pin-up and have a photo shoot I was sold! I had always wanted to be part of something like this and I was so very excited to contribute my vintage goodies toward this movement. I was even more excited when Rebecca had asked me to be the cover for the groupon deal! Without hesitation I said yes!
I arrived with some outfits to get changed into and Rebecca offered me a drink and introduced me to Louise Hackney. Louise is a make-up artist who has done weddings, proms and special occasions. She was friendly and knew exactly what she was doing as she matched the make up perfectly to my skin tone. Once the make-up was finished I was eager to see the result as everyone seemed very excited saying I looked just like a pin-up. I looked in the mirror and was so happy with the result! For someone that has been obsessed with pin-ups and vintage I couldn't of asked for better make-up. I knew it would look great on camera. It was then time for the fun to begin! Rebecca showed me where to stand and pose while she adjusted the lighting so it would flatter me. The studio is amazing with an infinity wall, lights and a fan to cool you down. I was a bit nervous but Rebecca was so friendly she put me at ease and I was getting into the swing of things in no time. Rebecca is truly a master at what she does giving you direction to ensure you get the best possible photo. I could tell she is so passionate about this which made it even more fun! When it was all over I wished it wasn't! I could of done it all day and night which is how I knew this was going to be perfect for others. I was so lucky to get to experience this and can't wait for others to try it! It was so empowering and just tons of fun with friendly people in a great professional studio. Below are some of the pictures from the photoshoot which I am just over the moon with!

Oreo Brownie Heaven

My idea of heaven would involve cookies, oreos and fudge brownies so when I stumbled upon this on Pinterest I was so happy I could have cried. I just had to make these brownies!

Below is the recipe taken from here:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups (12 ounces) milk chocolate chips
  • 1 pkg Double Stuffed Oreos
  • 1 Family Size (9×13) Brownie mix
  • 1/4 cup hot fudge topping

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream the butter and both sugars in a large bowl with an electric mixer on medium speed for 3-5 minutes. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well to thoroughly combine. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt, then slowly incorporate into the mixer until the flour is just combined. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread the cookie dough in the bottom of a 9×13 baking dish that’s been lined with wax paper and sprayed with cooking spray. Top with a layer of Oreos. Mix together brownie mix, adding an optional 1/4 cup of hot fudge topping to the mix. Pour the brownie batter over the cookie dough and Oreos. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for an additional 15-25 minutes. Let cool completely before cutting — brownies may still be gooey in the middle when still warm, but will set up perfectly once cooled. Enjoy!!
To half this recipe for an 8×8 brownie mix, simply half the chocolate chip cookie dough ingredients.

I made my own brownie mix for my version, below is the recipe:

  • 1 egg
  • 6 tbsp coa coa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 1/4 cup butter (or peanut butter)
Mix together sugar and butter until combined well. Then add the egg and vanilla and beat again. Finally add the flour and coacoa and combine. The mixture is now ready to pour onto the cookie and oreo base.

The people that have posted this recipe have done something amazing and topped it with ice cream and hot fudge. I top mine with whipped cream, chopped banana and hot fudge sauce(you can get the fudge sauce recipe here).  Happy baking!

Blondie's Twisted Tea Room: Afternoon Tea Adventures

So I found this great deal on Groupon (which I believe has now ended, you missed out!) for an afternoon tea at Blondie's for £6! Since I practically live there I had to book this for Simon and myself. He has now heard so much about it he was eager to see it for himself. He is a huge coffee fanatic and was not disappointed when he ordered a nice pot of coffee. It was so nice to see the place as busy as usual proving this is just what Stoke needed. We had a great time and Simon enjoyed cheese and salmon sandwiches whilst I enjoyed cheese sandwiches. Below are some pictures from the event, Enjoy!

Go to Blondie's now and enjoy a pot of tea and dreaming, dreaming is free!

Family Recipes: Summer Salmon Salad

There is nothing better on a hot day then to tuck into a big bowl of fresh salad. Sometimes I can find shop bought salads a little bland and not to my taste. So I decided to create my very own salad which is always a hit with  Simon and my friends.

Ingredients: serves 2
  • A medium sized piece of salmon
  • Two packets of pre prepared butternut squash
  • A packet of italian salad
  • Some butter for frying the butternut squash
  • Small amount of oil to cook the salmon
  • 1 1/2 cups of greek yoghurt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 orange juiced
Salmon and Squash:
  1. Get a griddle pan and lightly spritz or wipe a thin coat of oil onto the pan.
  2. Turn on the heat and place the salmon in the pan.
  3. As the salmon is cooking flake it with a wooden spoon until the salmon is cooked. Remove from the heat and place to one side.
  4. Take a frying pan and add a small knob of butter.
  5. Turn on the heat and once the butter is melted add the butternut squash. You may want to turn up the heat and move the butternut squash around the pan every now and then.
  6. Once the butternut squash has caramelised on the outside add a splash of water and cook until soft. Remove from the heat and put to one side.
  • Put the greek yoghurt, honey, olive oil and orange juice in a bowl and combine. This can be done the night before.
  1. In a large bowl place the salad leaves at the bottom.
  2. Add the butternut squash and then the salmon.
  3. Pour on the dressing.
I hope you all enjoy making this!

We've got obsessions: Spikes and Studs

Spiked Shirt as seen on LC

Spiked Necklace Perfect Poking out Under a Collar

Studded Topshop Pumps

Pretty Studded Miu-Miu Bag

At the moment it's safe to say I'm obsessed with studs and spikes. I love the idea of taking something feminine and adding an instant edge.

Blondies Twisted Tea Room

On the 14th of May a few friends and myself discovered one of Stoke's best kept secrets. A new wonderful little tea room tucked away in Percy Street named Blondie's Twisted Tea Room. We decided to give it a go and were pleasantly surprised. We were met by soft florals and dainty antique style tea cups lay out on wooden tables. The tea room serves a wide variety of teas in proper sized tea pots! As you can imagine this got me rather excited as I love a good pot of tea. We seated ourselves by the window and were promptly served by the host of the tea room Abigail. She had a warm welcoming way about her which instantly made us feel at home. Elayna and I ordered some cake whilst Abbi (aka Emerald Ivy) and Kate ordered sandwiches. The victoria sponge was nicely balanced with the right amount of sponge, cream and jam. Abbi and Kate were happily surprised by the tasty sandwiches served with crisps and salad. To top it all, this was very reasonably priced! It was then Abbi and I decided we were going to come the next day and I would certainly be blogging the event.
We decided to meet in the morning so we could have a cup of tea and something to eat before charity shopping. The weather was not on my side with the hail and the rain so I quickly ran to shelter in the tea room. I waited for Abbi and enjoyed a cup of Yorkshire tea while watching the passers by. There's something very cosy and slightly nostalgic about being inside the tea room whilst it's raining outside. The decor, music and atmosphere almost makes you forget where you are and transports you to another time. Abbi arrived shortly shaking the hail and rain from her coat. After chatting for a short time with the owner Abigail we were asked if we would like to see downstairs. Downstairs boasts a superbly decorated large space with enough tables to host a tea party and more! If you can't tell already, I am just a tad in love with the place.
Below are some pictures from the day:

 Sardines on toast! Delish!

Pssst! See Laced With Velvet Vintage and Emerald Ivy hosting a vintage event in Blondie's Twisted Tea Room soon!
